Course Outline

Aim

The Aim of the course is to give delegates a thorough understanding of Maintenance Programmes.

Objectives

The objectives of the course are:

  1. To equip the attendee with the skills and knowledge required to carry out Maintenance Programmes.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for persons who are familiar with Maintenance Programmes but require a more detailed understanding.

Key Topics

The key topics of the course are:

Day 1

Module 1 - Introduction
A brief introduction to the international standards and regulations relating to maintenance programmes starting with ICAO and continuing into European regulations and local national rules which continue to remain in force pending the full implementation of EASA regulations.

Module 2 – Design Related Scheduled Maintenance Requirements
This module is intended to introduce the candidate to the processes which in the course of Type Certification, may lead to the development of scheduled checks and inspections necessary to maintain the type essential to the management of in-service continuing airworthiness and as such this module will be of use to quality auditors and managers as well as technical services and planning engineers.

Module 3 – Reliability Programmes
This module is intended to describe the principle processes associated with reliability programmes but it is not reliability training in itself. The potential problems associated with management and interpretation of the programmes are discussed and explored and the important issues associated with effective data management are also highlighted. The principle characteristics of effective reliability programmes are highlighted as well as the characteristics of an effective quality audit process for reliability programmes.

Day 2

Module 4 – Maintenance Steering Group Analysis
The maintenance and inspection standards necessary to the economic viability as well as the essential airworthiness of the aircraft are derived during this process and as such this module is highly relevant to planners, technical service engineers, inspectors, managers and mechanics. An understanding of the concepts are equally relevant to the quality audit personnel who are required to audit the maintenance standards themselves.

Day 3

Module 4 continued

Day 4

Module 5 – In-Service Management of Maintenance Programmes
This is an important module in respect of the airworthiness management task which requires operators to review the effectiveness of their maintenance programme on a regular basis. The economic issues cannot be easily isolated from safety issues however and this module endeavours to provide guidance in this area. Aside from the obvious need for personnel managing the maintenance programme itself, to be trained in these precepts, managers and technical services personnel benefit from this training as well as quality audit personnel who are required to audit these essential airworthiness management tasks.

Day 5

Module 6 – Developing Issues
Various regulatory initiatives following some significant events and accidents, has led to the continuing development of regulations many of which will have an effect on scheduled maintenance programmes for operators, since their provisions will in some instances be made mandatory by retrospective application. Improved inspection standards and training in the standards have, for example, arisen from the fuel system safety programme, Ageing Transport Systems Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ATSRAC).
The rules will require that training is provided in the precepts for aircraft, aircrafts component organizations as well as requiring adoption and development of revised procedures.

Materials

All Avisa’s courses are highly practical and include numerous exercises which are specific to the trainees’ needs and focus on their relevant job function.

All exercises and material will contribute towards a practical audit, thus ensuring realism.
